Welcome to the latest way to keep up to date on all the Chesapeake Synchronized Skating (CSS) News! Each month the newsletter will be posted on the website and will have information about the club as well as individual team updates.

Winter Schedules:

The team practice schedule is as follows:

Admirals: 10-11am off-ice & 11-11:50am on ice

Sailors: 4:30-6:15pm off-ice & 6:15-7:45pm on ice

Skipjacks: 2:45-3:15pm off ice & 3:15-4:30pm on-ice

Topsails: 3:15-4pm on-ice

PLEASE plan on arriving 15 minutes ahead of your practice time as practice will start promptly at the scheduled time. With competitions looming, every minute of practice is needed to fine tune each teams program.

If you need to discuss issues with Coach Lauren, please do so outside of the scheduled practice times.

Cheap Practice Ice:

Cheap practice ice for only $10.00!! All Chesapeake Synchro skaters are now welcome and encouraged to use other teams' on ice synchro time for personal practice. It is expected that all skaters taking advantage of this opportunity for good ice at a cheap price come prepared to work. I reserve the right to ask any skater to leave the ice if they are wasting time/interfering with team practice. The right of way is always yielded to the synchro team. Feel free to use this time to practice synchro steps and counts or moves in the field. Please see above for the list of synchro practice times. Payment is remitted to Julie Kocur for practice ice. Please make checks out to Chesapeake Synchronized Skating.

Fundraising Updates:

●  The Looney’s fundraiser for the Admirals did not go quite as well as anticipated, but the Admirals appreciate the support of all who came out to dinner. Preliminary earnings are $50.

●  The Holiday show at Iceworld is scheduled for January 16th and January 17th with dress rehearsal on January 15th. We will be having a bake sale during the 16th and 17th show. Teams participating in the bake sale include Topsails and Admirals. Please plan on helping out at the table during the event and donating baked items to sell.

Planning Meeting:

The club planning committee meeting is scheduled for January 3, 2010 at 4:00pm. This committee functions to develop the structure of the coming season. They will also discuss the roles needed to carry out the various club activities. Members from every team are included in this committee, but if you would like to join this committee, please contact Rochelle.

Picture Request:

We would like more pictures for our website, so please continue to take pictures and forward them to Coach Lauren.

Picture Board Maintenance Committee:

We are still in need of members for the Bulletin Board Committee. If interested, please let Lauren know.

Admiral News:

The Admirals raised $50 in the Looney’s fundraiser. They have currently raised $867.38 of their $1000 commitment. The Admirals have revamped their program and continue to work hard on smoothing out all of their transitions.

Sailor News:

Scratch-off fundraiser money is due at the 12/18/09 practice. The Five Below Fundraiser in Whitemarsh has been canceled due to unavailability of dates.

We are continuing to collect items to turn into money. Please donate empty cartridges, unused cell phones, and aluminum cans and bring them in to any practice!!!

Meg Grasso is coordinating the holiday party/sleepover being held December 19-20th.

Skipjack News:

The girls are working hard on traveling circles, lunge intersections, and crisp transitions. Their renewed commitment to the team has shown itself dramatically in practice, keep up the good work! Kristi H. and Kim P. were chosen as the team captains. Any skater with concerns, questions, or ideas should filter them through Kim or Kristi first. Skipjacks have currently raised $1596.65 towards their $1500 goal! The excess money earned was used to purchase hair supplies.

Topsail News:

We are still looking for more skaters for this team. If anyone you know is interested in learning more about synchro or is interested in skating synchro, please contact Rochelle Mendelsohn or Lauren Neidig for more information. The Topsails will be exhibiting as part of the Great to Skate night event held by the Chespaeake Figure Skating Club on January 2nd from 5:45pm-7:45pm. Please come out and support our youngest team!!!!

Skater Kudos:

Admirals: Lise G. passed her Adult Bronze moves test.

Sailors: Ashley B. passed her Pre-Juvenile moves test.

Congrats!!!! If your skater has any new accomplishments, please email Julie Kocur so that they may be included in the next newsletter.

Skater Spotlight:

This section is to allow the skaters to get to know each other a little bit better. If you or your skater have not been featured, please send your information to Julie Kocur at jekocur@gmail.com

Admirals:

Bridgid B. - Bridgid started skating at Northwest Ice Rink in June 2008.  Since then she joined Ice Club of Baltimore in September 2008 and this season the CSS Admirals; she is always looking for adult skating activities.  As the Director of Fiscal Services for the National Federation of the Blind, it was important for Bridgid to find an activity where she could relieve some stress.  Bridgid finds skating relaxing, challenging, and a great social outlet; she would like to invite all adults to come out to play and experience the sensation of flying across the ice!  Finally she wants to thank the Admirals and Lauren for making this season so much fun ("we suck, but we're focused and we don't scream!") and hopes everyone will do it again next year!

Sailors:

Skipjacks:

Meghan K.- Meg has been skating for almost 4 years and this is her third season skating synchro. She is in sixth grade and likes to watch movies, read books, and hang out with friends. Her favorite books are The Magic Thief and the Harry Potter series. She also loves to play wii games and can’t wait for the newest Lego Indiana Jones game to come out!
