Colonials:

The Sailors compete on January 9, 2010 at 12:20pm. Log on to  www.fwfilms.com to watch them compete live!

Easterns:

As you all know, Eastern Sectional Championships are at the end of the month. This is the largest USFS Sectional in history with 147 teams scheduled to compete!!!!!! Some of the teams competing will move on to Nationals. The skill level and artistry of these teams is breathtaking. Our skaters will be competing along side these teams in a full-sized arena that seats over 6500 spectators. WOW!  If you ever wondered where your skater can go in this sport, here is your chance to find out!!!!!! Please take the time at this event to watch some of the other teams and of course cheer our teams on!

Holiday Show:

All four of our teams are exhibiting in this event. For our Topsail team, this is their only chance this season to show their program to a crowd of this size. Please let your family and friends know that loud cheering is greatly appreciated for all four of our teams.

Fundraising Updates:

●  The Topsails and Admirals will be hosting a bake sale during the Holiday show on January 16th and 17th. All club members are asked if they would be willing to donate baked items to sell to support these teams. If you are able to donate, please bring your individually wrapped baked item to the bake sale table on Saturday before the show. Your help is GREATLY appreciated.

Cheap Practice Ice:

Cheap practice ice for only $10.00!! All Chesapeake Synchro skaters are now welcome and encouraged to use other teams' on ice synchro time for personal practice. It is expected that all skaters taking advantage of this opportunity for good ice at a cheap price come prepared to work. Coach Lauren does reserve the right to ask any skater to leave the ice if they are wasting time/interfering with team practice. The right of way is always yielded to the synchro team. Feel free to use this time to practice synchro steps and counts or moves in the field. Please see above for the list of synchro practice times. Payment is remitted to Julie Kocur for practice ice. Please make checks out to Chesapeake Synchronized Skating.

Planning Meeting:

The club planning committee meeting scheduled for January 3, 2010 was postponed to allow the club to focus on the upcoming competitions and the Holiday show. Tryout planning is currently underway and volunteers are urgently needed to assist with this. If you are able to help with:

1.    Recruiting potential synchro skaters for the next season (creating recruiting flyers/letters/emails, getting flyers in appropriate locations, sending emails to potential synchro skaters, communicating with relevant individuals/groups, coming up with additional recruiting ideas, etc.)

2.    Preparing, coordinating and/or helping out with the try-out(s) for the next season

3.    Developing/planning ideas for team-building, team spirit and team coalescing for the teams next season

4.    Spearheading the creation and distribution of communications to the synchro families (newsletters, email blasts, web updates, etc.)

5.    Filling a key ongoing volunteer role during the next season (please provide input on what kind of roles you are interested in doing and/or willing to do)

please contact Rochelle.

Picture Request:

We would like more pictures for our website, so please continue to take pictures and forward them to Coach Lauren.

Picture Board Maintenance Committee:

We are still in need of members for the Bulletin Board Committee. If interested, please let Lauren know.

Admiral News:

The Admirals have currently raised $867.38 of their $1000 commitment and are co-hosting a bake sale at the holiday show to meet this commitment. The Admirals are practicing hard to prepare for Eastern sectionals.

Sailor News:

We are continuing to collect items to turn into money. Please donate empty cartridges, unused cell phones, and aluminum cans and bring them in to any practice!!!

Skipjack News:

The girls continue to work on their block, footwork, and crisp transitions. Off-ice time is invaluable as a way to reinforce the counts and help the girls memorize the program elements in regards to the music.

Topsail News:

The Topsail team will complete their season at the holiday show. The girls have all worked hard this season and had fun. They are continuing to recruit for next season, so if you know of any beginner skaters, please refer them to Lauren for information regarding the coming season.

Skater Kudos:

The next test session at Iceworld is on March 13th. After your skater tests, please let Julie know so that they may be included in the next newsletter.

Skater Spotlight:

This section is to allow the skaters to get to know each other a little bit better. If you or your skater have not been featured, please send your information to Julie Kocur at jekocur@gmail.com
